Although results for Tottenham Hotspur have been largely positive since the arrival of Antonio Conte as manager, back to back home defeats at the hands of both Southampton and Wolves have somewhat dented Champions League aspirations. Spurs had a number of games in hand on the teams around them due to postponements earlier in the season, and would have been expected to capitalise in the two aforementioned home games but that ultimately was not the case. The results in isolation are not the end of the world, but the fact that Tottenham appeared so fragile in defence in back to back games is a worry for both the fans and management team.
Tottenham went into the game with Southampton off the back of a solid run of Premier League results under the guidance of Antonio Conte. Some of the best au online casino had Spurs as big favourites to take all three points, but the home side were unable to keep a plucky Southampton side at bay. Tottenham took the lead twice in the match. Firstly after a Southampton own goal on 18 minutes, before Son Heung-Min scored on the 70 minute mark, cancelling out a Broja equaliser. Quite incredibly, the Saints scored a further two goals to run out 3-2 winners. However, Southampton fully deserved to win the match. They had 23 shots vs Tottenham’s 8 as well as 52% of the possession. without Eric Dier, the Spurs defence were all over the place.
It was more of the same come the 13th February against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Although Spurs were able to command more of the ball and take the game to their opponents, it was still another defeat come 90 minutes for Antonio Conte’s men. Admittedly, Wolves are on a very good run of form having now won four successive away games in the top flight for the first time since 1980. What Tottenham lack in terms of defensive organisation is concerning. Equally, Conte was never going to be able to walk in and completely transform the fortunes of this Tottenham Hotspur side without any setbacks along the way. Hopefully these two recent results will serve as a learning experience and Spurs can move forward in a positive manner.
