As Tottenham Hotspur supporters we know all too well that there are no guarantees in football. Despite being the best performing Premier League team over the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons, we somehow didn’t actually win anything! That said, it’s clear that under Mauricio Pochettino the club is heading in the right direction and success is surely around the corner. Just this Tuesday night we put in a brilliant display at the Bernabeu to draw 1-1 with Real Madrid, which shows how far the team has come. Still, apart from us Spurs fans, I bet there weren’t many people out there that expected us to get a favourable result and it just shows that anything can happen.??
If like me you like to back the Lillywhites on match day, then apart from the recent win against Bournemouth, it’s been more or less futile betting on us to win at home in the Premier League so far. Given our current standing, most bookmakers price Tottenham at odds-on to win in the majority of our home matches. There are obvious exceptions to this, such as when we hosted Chelsea earlier in the season and the upcoming visit of Real Madrid. But for the most part, Spurs will be deemed favourites and therefore only available to back at a short price. This basically means that you need to lump a fair amount on to get a decent return.
??Having noticed that the reward is greatly outweighed by the risk, I decided to look for an alternative strategy. After a bit of Googling around I found out about matched betting, which is a minimal risk technique of making money from online bookmaker promotions. I was sceptical at first but decided to give it a try and it really does work. In a nutshell, you place bets to get the offers and cover them off on a betting exchange. Then you use your bonuses and free bets and cover those on the exchange to make a profit.??
I’ve obviously simplified the explanation a little but you don’t need to worry about any complex working out. I’ve been using matchedbets.com for a few weeks now and they make it a doddle. There’s software to find the best bets and a matched betting calculator to take care of any tricky sums. This will tell you exactly how much to lay at the exchange to make the best profit. It’s totally changed my view on betting and I’m up a few hundred quid already. I still can’t resist a flutter on Spurs but by using my profit from matched betting, I won’t be out of pocket.
