Ramos gives me a quick answer

September 5, 2008 By mabbs 11 Comments

I was questioning yesterday whether Juande Ramos was happy with the performance of the Spurs hierarchy in the transfer market. Well it seems like he is judging by his interview with tottenhamhotspur.com

“I have little doubt that we have a squad of greater overall quality now than when I began at this club a year ago,” Ramos said.

“And by the end of the season our results will have proved this to be the case.

“I know there is much debate about our striker options, but I look at the whole picture and not just a like-for-like exchange.

“I want creativity and attacking flair from many parts of the pitch.”
He also had some positive things to say about the last minute capture of Campbell.

“Fraizer Campbell brings us pace, power and he’s a very good goalscorer

“He has a good workrate and is a handful for defenders, not for the same reasons as Roman, but because of his lightning pace.

“On top of that, he’s a natural goalscorer as we saw last season during his time on loan at Hull City. When you’ve got the ability, it gives you self-belief, and that’s what he’s got.”

I must admit, I am buoyed by him saying our results by the end of the season will prove our squad is better than last season. Does this mean Juande thinks we can better the Carling Cup win? Surely the only way to do this would be a UEFA Cup or FA Cup win, or a top 4 finish. Maybe he is just referring to last season’s league position but if we didn’t better that, I doubt Ramos would still be in a job.

I’m never sure about quotes from the official site, the club put out what they want to put out.

Not sure if he is happy or not, but do you think Ramos has really seem Campbell in action.

Ramos probably thinks it’s Darren Campbell.

How can he expect to better last season’s results after losing his two best players?

Very true Danny, we have lost arguably our 2 “most talented” players but not necessarily our best players.
What I ask you as a fan, is that if Berbatov and Keane were so great, how comes we were in the position that we were last season before Ramos turned up?

Modric or Tainio? Dos Santos or Malbranque? Bentley or Lennon? Gomes or Robinson?
Juande is 100% correct and we haven’t even given Roman Paavluchenko a chance to see what he can do yet!!
What if he scores more goals than Berba or Keane??

We were in that position last season thanks to the tabloids making Paul Robinson and Martin Jol’s respective positions impossible, Comolli bringing in players Jol had no knowledge of and Levy working behind the scenes to replace Jol and Houghton.

Gomes looks very good but the rest have done nothing to impress me as yet, big names with big fees but all they have achieved so far is a point.

Please let go- regardless of how badly it was done, Levy replaced Jol and Houghton for the better of the club.

You are also extremely naive to base your judgment on 3 players (Modric, Dos Santos and Bentley) after 3 games. Who remembers Berbatov looking completely oout of place in his debut against Bolton in 2006? He hardly looked th £30.75m player he is now did he?
I actualy think that they have all got better with each game they’ve played and Bentley has looked our most dangerous player so far……in fact we have upplied the most crosses in the league and if you are too blind to realise that we are actualy playing better football now than before then thats your agenda!! (55% 1st half against CHELSEA at STAMFORD BRIDGE with 1 STRIKER)!!!

    COYS!

completely agree with the comment from anonymous. i think we played some high quality possesion football at chelsea on sunday something we were unable to do in the jol era which was why we couldnt hold out results. i also think modric was very decent on sunday and will proove to be an excellent aquisition for the football club. In juande we trust
