If you could sign one player, who would it be?

July 15, 2009 By mabbs 48 Comments

It’s half way through July now and we are yet to see any fresh faces at the Lane. I really thought Harry would have brought in one or two players before next weeks Wembley Cup but it’s not looking very likely at the moment.

The thought of Patrick Vieira makes me very sad. I thought Arsenal did the right thing cashing in on him in 2005. A Patrick Vieira with another 4 years and a number of injuries on the clock can’t be any good for Tottenham, surely?

Also making me sad currently is the fact Craig Bellamy looks to be well down the pecking order at Manchester City now Mark Hughes has brought in Carlos Tevez and looks likely to sign Emmanuel Adebayor in the next few days. Redknapp was desperate to sign Bellamy last season and apparently the deal only fell through because West Ham weren’t happy selling to Spurs.

In other transfer news, Mirko Vucinic would never sign for us. That works out quite well because for one thing he’s shit, and for another, I doubt we were ever interested in him.

Anyway, I thought it would be find to find out what one player you would like to see brought in at Tottenham? It doesn’t have to be someone we have been linked with in the press. Is there anyone in the Championship that looks worth taking a punt on? Maybe a hidden gem in the Bundesliga? Share your thoughts in the comments section.

i’d have to say robben, yeh hes ex chelski but hes a good attacking left winger which we are in need off. then huntelaar would also be amazing! playing with defoe! what a partnership!!

    COYS!

Huntelaar would be awesome, not given a real chance at Madrid & still got goals!

In an ideal world Essien. He and Wilson would be fantastic in the middle together.

However, never gonna happen so I’d plump for Miguel Veloso from sporting.

Robben for me as well. When he first came to England, he was better than Ronaldo, one of my favourite players.

    I’d say Ashley Young.

I would love us to get a proven Premiership goalscorer. Step forward Peter Crouch.

Arshavin – but then again we could have had him and the start last season would have been much better- but then again we would have kept Ramos and not re-signed Chimbonda- but then again……………..

    Robinho-Huntelaar
    Robben/Cole-Ireland
    Hangeland

I would take Sulley Muntari. He can play on the left or in the centre. Powerful pacey and technically sound. On top of that he is proven in the Premiership and has European experience. He is exactly what we need in our squad at the moment and would raise the standard and options we would have in the middle of the park.

might be a step closer as Villa have just agreed a £12mil fee with boro for Downing.

Rumours have been circulating for a while that an agreement was in place with villa that spurs wouldn’t go in for downing as part of the suggested Young/Bentley/cash/bent swap up?????????

  14. Superspurs says

    July 15, 2009 at 9:54 am

Wish list is: Ronaldo but wont happen.

    Realistically we will probably get:

Ashley Young (for Bentley plus cash)
Huntelaar (with Bent going to Sunderland)

    Both great moves.

No one else is needed – especially not another bloody right back!

would love to see Ashley Young english young attacking would fit in well with defoe keane modric lennon ……. but how’s this for a theory Harry does not want to spend any more money and will get rid of dross first like kpb taarabt zokora(gone) dos santos and chimbonda then buy huntlaar and young we do not need any more right backs harry so sheff utd is smoke screen we do not need loads of players as tabloids say daily we will only play 52 games max next year thats getting to both carling and fa cup finals so i can’t play two games in 5 days goes out the window ..Harry will buy in january just to push for champs league place

  16. Joe says

    July 15, 2009 at 9:57 am

Oh really, seems like bad business as he is injured! Would you swap Bentley + Bent and pay cash for him? I read in one article that they would only accept a cash bid in excess of 30mil.

“If you could sign one player who would it be?”
That means any player in the world (No need to mention 100% impossible players like Kaka and Ronaldo, I know)

    Someone answered “Peter Crouch” FFS

Know doubt its got to be Huntelaar. This guy score for fun. But just like last season we messed around with the Arshavin deal and ended up with Pav. I can see the same happening again. Please god send a rich billionaire are way so can compete with the likes of chelsea,Arse, manu,Manc, and the scouses!and get rid of these idiots that are running this great club.

  21. dan says

    July 15, 2009 at 10:13 am

id say the only two positions that really need strengthening are left wing and attack , so robben/maxi rodrigues/ashley young and in attack huntlaar , keane and bent to be sold and defoe and pav to stay , and keep taraabt , he will be great and shud be given a chance

I think our club has spent loads of money, the problem is that we’ve spent them on the wrong players. Not the fault of the people running the club.

young, lennon, defoe, moddy, keane – what are we going to be playing in, an under 5’9″ league? – would be great in such a league though

Matias de Federico would be my first choice this kid is the dogs bollocks (you tube him)then maybe Babel or Ashley Young although i’d be reluctant to get in a right footed player to play on the left again. and please dont get in Viera,as much as I admire him as a player how am I really gonna balance that and his horrible past loyalty. Almost as bad as giving sol that number 23 shirt back……….. Matias de Federico is a must have he is the next big thing

RVN & Robben. I think we’d be fine from there – threat from all areas depth and youth. Maybe some cover for Wilson but I think we have creative options to burn.

Gattuso & Palacios in the middle? Opponent’s playmaker should be very very worried.

  46. Larry says

Sorry joining this very late but most people answering this are (being polite) fantasists
we need to get a spine back in the side so players that are within our grasp (cuntchops is correct we are an average pl side)
only supposed to pick 1 player but hell it aint gonna happen so i’ll pick a few
1st our 2 keepers are a joke so seeing as Harry likes prodigal sons Paul Robinson he didnt become a bad keeper overnight his confidence was shot to fuck especially after that Croatia game remember he was our keeper when we came 5th twice i think Harry could work his bullshit oooops i mean magic on him & getting an 80% of the old Paul Robinson back is 100% better than either Gomes or Cudicini
2nd our defence is the most injury prone in the world we know King Ledley will never be a regular again(last ever derby game at Highbury his tackle against Terry Henry in the penalty area was definately the save of the season) Woodgate makes Darren Anderton seem super fit, i love Dawson to bits but i think his confidence is shot through not being a 1st team regular so i would go with Hageland or Lescott but in all honesty i’d give Dawson & Corluka a run 1st
i have no complaints with Palaccios in midfield apart from his temper & upfront Keane,Defoe, Pavyluchenko & even Bent coming off the bench will do for me so all this writing means i only want 1 player

What about Lineker having a comeback – that would surely be magnificent.

But now that Crounch is more or less signed (I expect him to sign a contract soon), my hope is, that Spurs sign:

Christian Poulsen (Danish International currently playing for Juventus)

The only problem about Poulsen is, that it seems like he is on his way to Barca, which is pretty har competition…

I would go for David Silva, another midget, but what a player. Or Giovinco from Juve, my dad lives in Italy and says he is already worldclass.
