The players up for sale

The players up for sale

As there is still a distinct lack of solid activity on the transfer front, and with the rumours getting more and more desperate, I thought it might be a good chance to analyse those players that Spurs would probably be happy to offload this summer.

We are still quite heavy on the Team Comolli front but I’m slightly concerned that we won’t even be able to give a couple of those superstars away.

Definite Departures
Kevin-Prince Boateng – He’s the one that could be most difficult to shift. I believe he’s on quite decent wages, he’s got a little bit about him but doesn’t have a brain. Borussia Dortmund were interested but we apparently wanted too much money. I doubt any club will want to take a punt on him if a few million quid in transfer fees are involved, best to cut our losses imo.

Didier Zokora – As much as I like him as a person, his attitude is good and he’s probably a decent character to have in the dressing room, he adds very little in the way of value on the pitch as far as I can make out. Sevilla and Sunderland are both allegedly tracking the Ivorian but Spurs are again being greedy where the transfer fee is concerned. I’d bite someone’s hand off for £5m let alone the rumoured £8-10m Levy is after.

David Bentley – I still don’t really understand what went wrong other than the fact he’s another one without much going on upstairs. He did us all a favour by leading the revolt against Ramos and his goal against Arsenal was special but his head was never right at Spurs for one reason or another. Hopefully he’ll pop off to Villa and we will take a hit for a few million quid but have another big earner doing nothing for his money off the books.

Gilberto – Not much to say really, looks shockingly bad at times, has to go but like the Ghetto Kid, could be difficult to move on.

Maybe Moving
Alan Hutton – I don’t want to see him go anywhere but he might struggle to nail down the right back spot next season and with Everton and possibly Utd sniffing around he could fancy a move.

Jamie O’Hara – While he might not be the most talented player in the world, Jamie O’Hara is the man you know will give his all when many others have given up. I’m slightly disappointed with his choice of girlfriend but as long as it doesn’t affect his performance on the field, I don’t really care. Fulham are close to agreeing a deal if the rumours are to be believed, I hope not.

Gareth Bale – I wouldn’t be that bothered if Bale went to be honest. He doesn’t seem to have progressed at all since his arrival and he still hasn’t nailed down the art of defending. He had the potential to be one of the best left backs in the Premier League, he now has Championship potential.

  1. I can’t see Hutton going anywhere Mabbs, like you wouldn’t be too worried about Bale as he is the ultimate bad luck charm.

  2. out with bentley, bent zokora and o hara another striker and an attacking left sided player ie bastos dont think we need more than that this year .

  3. Glad ya didnt mention little Gio would love to see him given a chance and evaluate the situation in January. Its quite frustrating that we bought so many ‘good’ youngsters (Taarbat, KPB, Gio, Perkhart, Dervitte to name a few and dont forget we got mills, rose, obika etc) yet their opportunity has been limited despite the 7 subs coming in last year due to our awful start, hopefully we can get off on the right foot and bleed some youngsters in and stop spending huge amounts on players who fail to deliver.

  4. I agree with you tango, it would be nice to see even one of the youngsters break into the team. I would expect Harry to blood a few of them in the Carling Cup although maybe he won’t take any chances there it being our best opportunity of a trophy.

  5. So we sell Bale & Giblerto, what happens when Benny goes off to the African Cup of Nations or gets injured?

  6. argree with tango gio could be better then modric given a chance in the sqaud i dont think we should get rid of bently till january cos lennon was injured for the last few games of the season and the last time he got injured he was playing crap the following season ps leave downsyndrome were he is buy young, joe cole,or bastos if not go as we were YES EVEN KEEP BENT

  7. I think if we can’t get a decent left winger then Gio should be given a chance. He’s naturally left footed and is a great attacking player. now he’s spent a season in the prem he should be hard enough to take the knocks.
Bale also should be tried on the left as he’s rubbish at defending but has a wicked cross and free kick.
Modric defintaely needs to be played in teh middle (floating) if he’s going to be played to his full potential.

  8. I would not sell Bale. He is 19 and a clear skill player. TH went to enormous lengths to sign him ahead of MU. And we did. And if we do sell or loan him, we will lose (more) credibility. He is a huge talent. I know he is not the best defender around at present, but a fair LW. If we sell him, we are selling our future. I say, let him develop. Let someone (please) develop a team around him and DO something. I have followed Spurs from afar for 40+ years, and we have not DONE something. Make him a centrepiece, along with Modric, Palacios and Lennon. They are the only players we have worth their salt. Let’s get behind them and do something.

  9. W hy do spurs fans allways want to shift players and buy players.Lets get in the real world the prem and now the spanish goverments money next the italian mafia money will ruin football has a competition real madrid has took football to a new discusting level 180 millon so far. Just when the world is facing finacial meltdown and jobs a falling like winter leaves .The pigs are trying to kill us with swine flu .And spurs fans want to flog bentley and co because of a bad start.I will spell it out slowly all our players struggled moderic pav bent even lennon in them frenetic early games .Why two reasons .T his whas forcast to be the top and bottem top utd chelsea liverpool spurs arsenal aston villa everton the bottem stoke hull westbrom or fulham pompey west ham where all tipped for relegation trouble trouble .It whas stated that hull and co should get off to a good start and they did all at spurs is expense we gave every team in trouble 3 points .Why whas it so difficult to beat teams with players costing 2 5 or so millons WHEN WE BOUGHT PLAYERS FOR 15 OR SO MILLONS .W ell hear is the whole scandal .Teams where looking for some kind of competative edge to get well away from trouble and break into the top four .We went to spain and looked great unbeaten very slim .the only problem ours whas legal crap a diet by proffesser estaban that should have kept us fit well it dident players where hungry and tired .And the mane reason the rest where taking somthing that give you massive energy boosts and overun usplayers where left gasping for breath late goals where going in ex players like slim mido where beating us .Uk sport the Fa turned a blind eye and newcastle fell victims to this foul smelling illegal energy that whas keeping us in deep relegation trouble .Then harry came and thought he had done the miracle and players got left behind like dos bale hutton hudds he brought king back .that whas is miracle and me ringing every station uk sport telling about energy abuse .And uk sport told me they new but were helpless to catch them this is why the new laws ,that wada and uk sport are desperat to bring in will meen all our players will have a fresh start in a true energy league and ronaldo and co can avoid it by fleeing to spain or italy .that is the real reason our players failed in them early games and Harry did the rest by panicking and buying in january .So wait and see you may be suprised and bentley and dosantos and bale and hudds this year.

  10. I say sell Bale, Pav, Hutton, Gilberto, Zokora and Boateng. For gods sake keep bentley i still think he has alot to prove and will cut it next year, keep huddlestone and o hara their spurs lads and have great talent especially hudds. I like Zokora but he wont get played ahead of palacious next season. Bring in ashley young and we will be a great team.

  11. BALE IS TWENTY LATER THIS MONTH! Why is everyone going on about what a failure he has been? He has years to get it right – give him a chance.

  12. Whatever the site, whatever the thread, you can always rely on DavSpurs to pitch in with an incoherent rant which manges to lead back to drugs & illegal substances.
Maybe there’s a new radio show here.
Start with any subject you can think of & see how long it takes to get back to drug-taking in the Prem.
Come on mate, calm down & take your own advice. Stay off the funny stuff…….

  13. Some of the comments above I really do not understand. We have rayspur saying the following “He is a huge talent” “If we sell him, we are selling our future” “I say,let him develop. Let someone (please) develop a team around him” Then there is Ben saying “BALE IS TWENTY LATER THIS MONTH! Why is everyone going on about what a failure he has been? He has years to get it right – give him a chance”

My oppinion is that Bale was bought as a defender and as a defender he is clueless, he just can’t defend. I have seen absolutely nothing to suggest he is a HUGE TALENT, he is just a very average player, and not really at top premiership level. If we sell him we are not selling our future, we are getting back some of the outlay that was made. Not every youngster that shows potential progresses on to become a star, some reach a certain level and that is where they remain.

As far as building a team around him, I have never heard anything quite so ridiculous. Does one really believe he is the kingpin and fulcrum to build a championship team around because if they do than a championship team is a possibility rather than a top premiership team.

  14. davspurs seriously…….mate some of your points make sense but sometimes (too often i think) you veer off into the lad of lalala and twist up your little mind. Keep it real fella, we lost all those games because we played rubbish, ramos lost his nerve and too many big players believed their own hype. We will much better for it this year though – Harry will keep their feet on the ground and make them treat the opposition with respect. We don’t need to sell or buy too many just the obvious fringe players can go, we should keep the young talents and give them a go. We do need to strengthen at CB and LB, other than that, we were 2nd Top of the Form League Jan to end of Season…….can’t be too much wrong there at all.

  15. Bale may come good give im another year, zokora well since palicios turned up obviously he aint no where as good, but he has worked hard for us and never given given up, would’ve love to have seen him score scorcher, but bye bye. Bently i like, madness to get rid of him just now now, he was class for blackburn, and he did show brilliance against the scum and at red bull hq, i think he will come come good, and do a good job. O’hara how the hell can we we get rid of him, he stood stood up and fought last last season even when he we’rnt playing too good he still got stuck in and wears the shirt with pride unlike jenas!!

  16. Bale has got strength , pace , can carry the ball, delivers a decent cross, can shoot. Needs to learn to defend and to make it count when he gets in decent positions. I’d keep him. In fact I wouldn’t be in a rush to unload anyone except for no-hopers like Boateng and Tarrabt and players who are too lightweight for the Prem – like Dos Santos.

  17. i dont know everybody has a go at bale, we cant really say he has no future at such a young age. i would have got rid of ekotto two years ago , but last season was one of our better palyers. o’ hara is committed to the club. levy needs to understand that if he keeps buying these youngsters then he must realise the are not the finished article, im sure that some these youngsters going will come back and bite us in the backside. the main concern i have is the dreaded pre-season again without new players for the first 3-4 weeks, then we all expect the new signings to be an instant success.

  18. hahahaha you bunch of spuds are full of shit. your going to finish below us mighty gunners again as usual, i dont know why you only want to sell those players, you need to sell all of your players, they’re all shit, and the only way you will ever get close to arsenal quallity are our rejects, bentley. god just one big joke.
