Jenas is coming into his own

Jermaine Jenas has shown me he’s more than an inconsistent albeit talented midfielder.

Having the Captain’s armband during the pre-season friendlies looks like it means a lot to him. He’s setting a great example on the pitch and has put himself across really well in post match interviews, particularly yesterday after the Dortmund game.

It looks like he really believes Spurs can break into the top 4.

He told Sky Sports: “I think it’s all down to ourselves and our mentality and how hard we’re prepared to work.”

“We’ve got an abundance of ability, but we’ve had that over the last couple of years, we just need that something extra that we’ve been looking for and hopefully we’ll find it this year.”

“Every player wants to play in the Champions League and I remember being sat here a couple of years ago saying ‘let’s go for the Champions League’, we’d just bought three or four players, but you have to be realistic, it’s not easy.”

“It’s tough but we’ve got a number of quality players that have come in who will be doing their best to get in amongst it and give ourselves a shot towards the end of the season.”

Jenas has always been regarded as one of the best midfielders in the country and talked of highly by a number of the top people in the game. While he’s shown flashes of brilliance, I’ve always felt he had an extra gear, he managed to find it in the Ar5na1 Carling Cup semi-final.

Let’s hope he can continue at this level once the season gets underway and maybe we will have a serious shot at the top 4.

I’ll leave you with this video. I’m not sure why, but it makes me laugh even after a dozen or so times of watching it!

Jose Maria Del Nido and Bent for Top Scorer

As I alluded to a while back and was told off for (see here) , Jose Maria Del Nido (great name isn’t it?!) has branded Daniel Levy a hypocrite for moaning about Utd’s pursuit of Berbatov and Liverpool’s pursuit of Keane.

Del Nido said: “It is hypocrisy personified Tottenham are complaining about things they have done themselves.

“They took away our manager and now they are complaining that others are trying to take their players.

“Their style is demonstrated by the way they contracted Ramos.”

Although I am warming to Levy recently for his work in the transfer market, if I was a Sevilla fan I would have been less than pleased with his work where Ramos was concerned.

Hopefully the dossier will quietly die a death.

How about Darren Bent eh? Another goal last night against Celtic and I thought his all round play was excellent. He looked good on the ball, his passing was solid and he was chasing everything.

He’s still a best priced 33/1 with Bet365 to be the top Premier League Goalscorer. The way he’s knocking them in for fun at the minute makes this look a good e/w bet.

This week’s top 5 Spurs rumours

1. According to one of the ITK Spurs crowd, Ledley King is finished. This rumour has been flying around for the last couple of years but has resurfaced this week. I hope it’s not true. Having him around for a few games a season is better than nothing.

2. Andrei Arshavin is set to sign for Tottenham in the next few days. Quotes from his agent suggest a deal is close but the problem lies with the fee. Where have all the other big sides gone that were supposedly interested?

3. Spurs are interested in signing Juventus wonder kid Sebastian Giovinco but face strong competition from Arsenal.

4. Dimitar Berbatov will be a Man Utd player by early next week and likely won’t be travelling to Holland. This is getting borning now, either do one or commit yourself and break a smile.

5. Spurs have held talks with Spartak Moscow striker Roman Pavlyuchenko. Not sure if this deal is now dead with Arshavin looking close.

Anyone able to confirm or deny?
